Job Description
The Commis I – Pastry is responsible for supporting the Pastry Chef in preparing, baking, and presenting high-quality desserts, pastries, and bakery items. This role requires excellent technical skills, creativity, and attention to detail to ensure all products meet the brand’s culinary standards. The Commis I handles daily mise-en-place, follows recipes accurately, portions ingredients correctly, and ensures consistency in taste, texture, and presentation.
The position also involves operating bakery equipment, decorating cakes and pastries, and assisting in the preparation of items for buffets, à la carte menus, banquets, and special events. Maintaining strict hygiene and sanitation standards is essential, along with keeping workstations clean, organized, and compliant with HACCP guidelines.
The Commis I – Pastry works closely with the pastry team to ensure smooth kitchen operations, timely production, and a creative approach to new dessert ideas. The ideal candidate demonstrates discipline, passion for pastry, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while contributing positively to the culinary team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Related Work Experience: At least 1 year of related work experience.
Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience.
